Snow here, mild air there: Bavarian weather could hardly be more different next week

The coming week promises snow down to the higher plains in the east and mild air in the south.

Two air currents determine very different weather in Bavaria.

Munich – Winter weather is slowly coming up in Bavaria, but not throughout the Free State, but only in the north-east and east of the country.

Because here comes cold air from a high over eastern central Europe, which is now connecting to another high over northwestern Russia.

In the south and southwest, on the other hand, milder air flows in from a low from the south.

Weather dichotomy in Bavaria: Snow line varies by up to 500 meters

And so it is that the snow line in Bavaria will vary by up to 500 meters on the same day next week, depending on which part of the country you are in.

In any case, Lower Bavaria, Upper Palatinate and Upper Franconia should dress warmly and should no longer venture onto the road without winter tires.

Snow falls in eastern Bavaria throughout the week.

In the south, on the other hand, it remains mild and snow-free.

Because in the eastern parts of the country, the snow line falls to 500 meters on Tuesday night, the German Weather Service (DWD) predicts.

On Tuesday, according to the DWD, the snow line is 1000 meters in the south-west and around 500 meters in the east.

During the night on Wednesday, snow will fall down to the lowlands.

Divided Bavarian weather: 8 degrees at Lake Constance, snow in eastern Bavaria

The blatant division of the country is also reflected in the temperatures.

Already on Monday the thermometer in the valleys of the Upper Palatinate Forest and Fichtelgebirge will not climb above 1 degree, on Lake Constance and in the Spessart up to 8 degrees are possible.

In the east, the same already fall to minus two degrees on Monday night, while in the southwest there should still be comparatively mild plus four degrees at night.

During the day, temperatures vary between seven degrees in the southwest and a maximum of one degree in the east.

The fact that the sun was only shining in the absolute south of Bavaria from Munich on Sunday due to the prevailing high-pressure weather and the rest was stuck in densely wafting high fog doesn't make things any better.

Weather in Bavaria: It's getting really uncomfortable everywhere

However, there is a small consolation for all East Bavarians: it is getting uncomfortable everywhere in the Free State.

Already on Monday dense clouds are gathering everywhere in Bavaria and there is always rain and wind.

The perceived temperature, which is calculated from wind and humidity, among other things, falls below freezing everywhere in Bavaria at the end of the week.

And it may even be more pleasant to endure this weather situation with light snow and a real minus two degrees than with drizzle and felt shivering weather.
