More than fifty paintings included in the exhibition of amateur drawings held by the Expatriate Friends Association in Homs embody the Syrian urban heritage, in addition to human subjects that reflect beauty and fine art, as most of them were characterized by realism.

The exhibition, which opened today in the hall of the Union of Fine Artists in Homs, and will last for three days, is the product of amateur students who underwent a training course last summer that qualified them to participate in the exhibition and competition that is held annually on the sidelines of the Expatriate Doctors Conference at Al-Wadi University.

Choosing the Syrian Architectural Heritage The title of the paintings for the exhibition is a translation of Syria's richness in heritage and historical buildings, according to plastic artist Samira Medawar, a member of the Association of Expatriate Friends.

Medawar pointed out that the participants in the exhibition ranged from 14 to 30 years of age from various academic levels, as the exhibition aims to create a generation of amateurs, nurture them and develop their creative talents.

Lujain Bashar, a graduate of the Institute of Fine Arts and winner of the first prize during her participation in the exhibition, chose an old Damascene neighborhood with a stone arch using black, brown and green colours, while Rania Melhem, a student of chemical engineering, painted in oil the Hornet Garden in the center of Homs and the Khaled bin Al-Walid Mosque.

Lynn Bashar, a fine arts graduate, chose an area from the Bab Touma neighborhood in Damascus as the title of her oil painting, while Judy Bitar, a tenth grader, shared a painting in which she embodied the Monastery of St. Takla in Maaloula, with the beauty of its colors and details present in the visual memory of everyone who visited it.

Salim Grouj, a ninth grader, participated in the painting of the historic and archaeological Mosque of Virtues in the Al-Hamidiyah neighborhood, being the son of the neighborhood, and the face of an elderly person reflects beautiful details towards the elderly.

Among the images stored in her childhood memory, Sophie Chahine, a graduate of food engineering, painted a painting for one of the streets of Bustan Al-Diwan neighborhood in Old Homs, using black to highlight the beauty of the black stone.

Visual artist Rami Darwish said: The students excelled in choosing colors and techniques in embodying the sites and neighborhoods they chose, and they have good and rich visual and color nutrition.

It is noteworthy that the Expatriate Friends Association was established in 1973 in Homs, and aims to establish bridges of communication with expatriates of Syrian origin in all countries of the world.
