Explosions in Peißenberg: Witnesses report a "tinny bang"

A young man, who was staying with his girlfriend in a neighboring house on Saturday evening, says that he suddenly heard a bang.

It sounded like something had fallen down.

The 22-year-old just happened to have his smartphone's recorder running - the recording made a bang that sounded strangely tinny.

After that, he says, there was another bang, a little quieter.

He didn't even think about explosions.

He ran out and saw fire - and the glow of flashlights in the house.

"I screamed: There are people in there." At that moment he heard the siren of the fire department.

A couple who live in a house in the neighborhood also reported two explosions.

It was a shock for the whole family, says the family man.

After the first explosion, he told his children to leave the window immediately.

The second explosion - he estimates about ten to twenty seconds later - was not that strong.

"We didn't know what happened," he says.

He then heard people shouting that everyone should get out of the house.

It's bad, he says, that two people died.

"That's very sad."

When firefighters and police arrived, the apartment was already engulfed in flames.

The fire brigade discovered two lifeless people during the extinguishing work in the apartment.

Any help came too late for them.

Three other residents of the house came to the surrounding hospitals with suspected smoke inhalation for examination.

In addition to the three injured, the BRK looked after numerous other people on site.

Fire in a residential building in Peißenberg: damage in the high six-digit range

The damage to the house, however, is immense.

After a structural engineer examined the building, most residents were able to return to their apartments.

However, because balconies are in danger of collapsing, the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) had to take safety measures in this regard.

According to initial estimates, the material damage to the residential building with a total of 24 residential units should be at least in the high six-digit range.

Explosion sounds probably triggered by fire gases

The Weilheim Kripo began investigating the cause of the alleged explosions and the other backgrounds that night.

The explosion noise was probably triggered by the deflagration of fire gases, said a spokesman for the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South on Sunday morning.

"It was definitely a fire, explosion is a bit of an exaggeration."

The bodies of the two dead were secured, as was the fire apartment.

Fire investigators will continue their investigations there this Sunday.

According to the police, no statements can be made about the cause of the serious fire.

It will be determined in all directions.
