Temperatures are expected to drop 2° to 5°C by Friday and thus be around 2°C lower than normal for the season.
The cause ?
An anticyclone located over Scandinavia.
A cold snap" ?
“At this time of the year, in early December, the average maximum temperatures are between 7° and 14°C from north to south, which is the case at the start of the week. But with the arrival of continental air, these values will lose 2 ° to 5 ° C by Friday, “
says the weather forecasting organization.
This drop will however be followed by a
“partial thaw”
in the south of France next Sunday and Monday.
Conversely, the cold air should remain in the northeast.
“This air mass conflict will be accompanied by a marked rainy episode in the Mediterranean, causing snow at medium altitude on our mountains”
, further specifies the Weather Channel.
The month of December should therefore return to seasonal temperatures.
The anticyclone located between the Arctic and Scandinavia should however strengthen and contribute to the
“polar air”
plunging over France between December 6 and 12.
If this trend is confirmed, temperatures could then drop further and be 3°C below seasonal averages.
This episode could also be accompanied by snowfall in the plains.
Temperatures should then warm up.
"In total, it is possible that this month will end slightly below the average for the season, which has not happened since December 2017, with an anomaly of -0.2°C"

"cold wave".

Cold episodes are, in fact, characterized by
“an intense and extended period of cold, lasting at least 3 days”.
The national thermal index (average temperatures in 30 French cities) must also be below 0.9°C during these three days and the national average temperature must fall below -2°C for at least one day.
According to the Weather Channel, this should not be the case for this month of December.
