A development occurred yesterday (Monday) in the investigation of the murder of the 61-year-old Israeli Yuval Arbel in his apartment in the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands - one of the three suspects, a 41-year-old man, wishes to retract his denial of the act and confess.

According to the local media in the city, the 41-year-old said in court at another preliminary hearing before the trial officially opens that "a sense of guilt is eating me up and I am going to consult my lawyer very carefully about what I am going to say. The relatives are also entitled to that."

Arbel's friend was present in the hall and expressed satisfaction with the development.

The murder took place on the night between April 12 and 13 last year.

Yesterday, it became clear that the three men aged 52, 41, and 29 are expected to be charged with aggravated murder, after they violently blackmailed and robbed Yuval Arbel, and then used the credit card they stole from him.

Many questions still remain unanswered about the incident and the steps that preceded it, but the prosecution expects to learn more about them, if indeed the suspect keeps his word and cooperates with the investigators.

Until then, and while the three also undergo psychiatric tests, the filing of the indictment is delayed in the meantime.

The three are expected to be accused in two other incidents, of breaking into a restaurant.

In April, Arbel's neighbors told the newspaper that he was very well known on the street and told about "a sweet and nice man who wouldn't hurt a fly."

"It really hurts me that he was a victim of something so terrible," said one of the residents.

"I knew him by saying hello. Sometimes we talked when he went out. Anyone who has this on their conscience is not human. This man needed help, he was being treated for his health and therefore he was a very easy victim," he added.

One of the neighbors from a nearby complex said that "this is a cowardly act. Of course we are shocked."

"He was a sensitive person, and I knew him for many years," the Chabad rabbi in Utrecht, Rabbi Aryeh Heinz, said about him, "in recent years, he would come to our Chabad house and the synagogue and they loved him very much," he added.
