"We don't know much about Maria's condition, only the fact that she was taken to the hospital because of a surgical problem, she underwent surgery and there is an improvement," Tatiana Khomich, Maria Kolesnikova's sister, told Israel Hayom this evening.
Kolesnikova, one of the symbols of the Belarusian democratic protest against the Lukashenko regime two years ago and one of the three women who led it, was rushed yesterday from the special detention facility where she is being held for intensive care.
Her sister Tatiana, who lives in Paris and is an activist for the release of political prisoners in Belarus, told "Israel Hayom" that there has been no contact with Maria in the past two weeks since she was transferred from the penal colony in the city of Homel, where she has been staying since January, to isolation in another facility in the city.
Tatyana Khomich, sister of the Belarusian opposition leader Maria Kolesnikova,
"The regime constantly put pressure on her to break her spirit. They prevented her from various activities such as the gym under various pretexts such as being rude to the guards or staying in a place she shouldn't be, they prevented her from talking to our father. But she was always optimistic, made sure to take care of herself As much as this is possible in a penal colony. We don't know what happened, we hope there will be more information soon."
