Actually, a Munich private high school should have changed location long ago.

But things turned out differently.

The situation is now dramatic.

Munich – The Haidhauser private high school Dr.

Florian Überreiter should have moved from Pariser Strasse to the former Unionsbräu on Max-Weber-Platz five years ago.

Due to Corona, among other things, the move has been delayed more and more, explains Ursula Berktold, Managing Director of the Ernst von Borries School Foundation in Munich, which is the sponsor of the high school.

Munich: Haidhauser private high school Dr.

Florian Überreiter "trapped"

The grammar school is currently located in an urban property that is in need of renovation.

The delay in the project has led to an increase in the construction costs for the transformation of the Unionsbräu and pushed up the targeted rent.

“In short: the project is no longer financially viable for us.

So we're trapped because it's not possible to renovate our school building on Pariser Strasse while the school is running," says Berktold.

She hopes the city will offer the overrider a "social" rent.

Discussions with the school foundation: “Securing the long-term existence of the grammar school”

According to Article 75 of the Municipal Code, such a rent reduction is possible to ensure the existence of small and low-yield businesses and to carry out municipal tasks.

Berktold: "Both would apply to us: we are a small non-profit company and we take on public tasks."

The municipal department is in talks with the school foundation.

"The state capital Munich is concerned with securing the long-term existence of the high school and finding an agreement," said a spokesman.

During the negotiations, however, the municipal department could not provide any further information.
