An 18-year-old young man jumped from the first floor window of the Parc-des-Loges high school around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Injured in the pelvis, his prognosis

The action happened in seconds.

According to a source close to the investigation, this Tuesday morning, an 18-year-old final year student tried to end his life at Parc-des-Loges high school, in Évry-Courcouronnes (Essonne).

In the middle of English class, around 9:30 a.m., he opened a window in his class and threw himself from the first floor.

His fall of 4.50 m had no serious consequences.

According to the firefighters of Essonne, the young man was categorized in relative emergency and hospitalized for a spinal trauma.

He suffers from pain in the pelvis but his vital prognosis is not engaged.

The student, "psychologically fragile" according to a source close to the investigation, would have said to one of his comrades before jumping: "I will perhaps regret it but I have to do it".

“Everyone is very shocked”

The scene took place in an interior courtyard, under the eyes of many students in class in other rooms.

“Everyone is very shocked within the establishment, blows a source in high school.

With up to 35 students per class, teachers can't do it all and see it all.

And normally the windows don't open fully.

Firefighters and police came all morning.

“At 10 a.m. recess, everyone went out,” says Oscar Segura, Spanish teacher and Nupes substitute for the 1st district of Essonne.

We resumed our classes by discussing the subject with the students, reassuring them that the one who had jumped had not died.

It took the pressure off.

The predominant emotion is sadness.

To do this during a lesson, inside the school, that says something.

The English teacher, whose class was disrupted, is also traumatized.

"When you're in class, in a room with students, it's like a cocoon, so an event like that is very disturbing," says Oscar Segura, a teacher for twenty years in this high school.

Stéphane Beaudet, the mayor (SE) of Évry-Courcouronnes, joined the principal and the father of the victim this morning.

“The act is serious,” he adds, specifying that “psychological support systems have been put in place” for students who wanted it.

Parents have also been notified.

At the end of the day, a fire brigade vehicle was still parked in front of the establishment's gates.

He left the scene shortly after 6 p.m.
