There is also an upper limit for the pension.

But 3000 euros per month are actually possible.

But you have to work long hours and earn good money.

Munich/Berlin – In 2021, the average pension in Germany was 1089 euros per month.

Men were able to look forward to a little more than women, but their retirement benefits are not really high at 1208 euros, as the data from the German Pension Insurance (DRV) show.

If you want to have more money available in old age, you need more pension points.

These determine how high the pension will be at the end of working life.

Pension: There is a maximum

One pension point per month currently costs EUR 36.02 in the West and EUR 35.52 in the East.

How many pension points you get depends on the employee's income.

Whoever earns the average salary of 38,901 euros (as of 2022) receives exactly one pension point.

But there is also a maximum limit.

This prevents higher earners from later receiving enormously high pension payments.

This contribution assessment limit is 84,600 euros per year in 2022.

For the income that goes beyond that, no contributions have to be paid.

If you then divide this 84,600 euros by the average salary, you get the maximum number of pension points that you can achieve in this year.

In 2022 that would be 2.17.

3000 euros pension: This is how the record amount is calculated

So what is the maximum pension one can achieve?

For the sake of simplicity, we assume that the employee receives exactly two pension points each year.

This results in the following calculation at 45 years according to the current pension value:

sample invoice:

2

pension points

x

45

years of contributions

x

36.02

euros pension value =

3241.80 euros pension

per month

While it's unlikely that a worker would earn enough for 45 years to earn the maximum amount of pension points each year, a $3,000 pension isn't impossible.

If you pay in for 45 years, you have to earn 1.85 pension points per year for this amount according to the current pension value.

40 pensioners in Germany actually achieved this record amount last year.

According to a DRV report, they received more than 3,000 euros a month.

In order to crack this limit, however, these people had to pay into the coffers for 50 years and more.
