Adolfo Suárez Illana, 58, son of the former president of the Government Adolfo Suárez and fourth secretary of the Congress Table for the PP, has announced this Tuesday that he is leaving politics and resigning from his deputy act of the PP, as well as from the presidency of the Fundación Concordia y Libertad linked to this party.

The lawyer, who was rescued for politics by Pablo Casado, who signed him in the first elections of 2019 as

number two

for Madrid, assures that he is leaving to "resume professional and family obligations" that he had left behind, once the PP has overcome the crisis due to the departure of Casado and the arrival of Alberto Núñez Feijóo to the popular presidency.

Suárez Illana has published a farewell letter in which he recalls that a little over four years ago he was called to return to politics when the PP was immersed in "a transition process, after the crisis unleashed within it by the unexpected motion of censorship that was presented against President Rajoy”.

It was Pablo Casado who recovered him after a long period away from politics, which he had abandoned after a resounding defeat when he ran as the PP candidate for the presidency of Castilla-La Mancha in 2003.

All my love and thanks for his work to Adolfo Suárez Illana.

He has exercised responsibly and delivers his work in Congress and in the party, and he will always be an important part of the PP.

"It has been a very difficult four years for our party," says the son of the former Prime Minister in reference to this last stage in the PP, but "time passes and circumstances change."

“Today, thanks to God, to the efforts of many and to the good management of President Feijóo, my party has overcome the past crisis with very notable success and is, at last, in a situation that promises victory in the next elections. ”, defends Suárez Illana, who adds that the reasons for his departure are “to resume professional and family obligations” that he had “temporarily parked”.

The deputy affirms that he has agreed with Feijóo to also take over at the head of the Concordia y Libertad foundation, where Casado placed him, and apologizes "for the mistakes made."

Some of them were very loud.

Like when he opposed the abortion deadline law with eccentric arguments such as that "the Neanderthals also used it, what happens is that they waited for him to be born and then they cut off his head."

At that time he also assured that "in New York a law has just been approved allowing abortion after birth", statements for which he had to apologize later, once "a New York office" said , confirmed that this information was not correct.

Suárez Illana joined the PP in 2002.

Shortly after, José María Aznar included him in the Executive Committee of the party.

In 2003, he ran as a candidate for the presidency of Castilla-La Mancha, facing José Bono, and after his defeat he withdrew from politics without even accepting his regional deputy act.

16 years later, Pablo Casado recovered him as one of his star signings, but after his first setbacks the party stopped promoting his public projection.

Despite occupying a relevant institutional position -as fourth secretary of the Congress Bureau- he had kept a low profile since 2019. During this time, some of his gestures stood out, such as turning his back every time a deputy from Bildu.

Now, in the new stage led by Feijóo, he has chosen to abandon politics again,
