Neuried – A large-scale operation by helpers from the fire brigade, police and gas station kept Neuried in suspense on Tuesday evening and caused fears.
Buildings had to be evacuated, and the large crossroads in the town center and its branches had to be completely blocked because there was a risk of explosion.
An excavator had damaged a larger gas line.
The hissing sounded eerie through the darkness: the gas was escaping with such pressure and in such large quantities that it could be heard hundreds of meters away.
The incident happened shortly after 5 p.m.: An excavator on the construction site in the area of the Chinese restaurant, which only started on Monday, right at the intersection of Forstenrieder Straße and Münchner Straße, tore open a gas pipe with the shovel.
The work was stopped immediately and the rescue services were notified.
In addition to the police and the gas station of the Munich public utility company, it was above all the fire brigades in Neuried and Planegg who blocked the area and diverted traffic.
But that's not all: in the densely populated center of Neuried, there were numerous buildings within a 100 meter radius, which in such cases had to be cleared while the gas line was being repaired due to the risk of explosion.
In particular, the primary school and music school had to be evacuated, where there was a program last night.
Other residents were asked by the emergency services not to leave their houses and, above all, to stay away from the crossing area.
In the end, everything went well: at 6:28 p.m., the gas station reported that the gas leak had stopped.
A relief hole had previously been drilled to relieve pressure from the line.
The roadblocks were gradually lifted, with the exception of the Münchner Straße, which was mainly affected, and traffic was able to flow unhindered again.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
