In the SPD, Florian Post attracted particular attention with his criticism of Olaf Scholz. In August he finally left the party in a media-effective manner. Now the former member of the Bundestag has found a new political home.

The former SPD politician Florian Post has a new party.

He confirmed to SPIEGEL that he had joined the CSU.

The »Münchner Merkur« reported about it first.

In his justification for the change, Post settled again with his former party.

"The SPD has long since stopped supporting people who work to improve our prosperity every day," Post told SPIEGEL.

"These are the people who get up every day, take care of their children, work hard, but are also happy about a cheap flight." These people have no understanding for the new rituals "like gender stars," according to Post.

In August, after 18 years as a member, Post announced his departure from the SPD, accompanied by massive criticism of the party leadership.

The SPD is "no longer a party to choose for people with ordinary everyday worries," Post wrote in his two-page farewell letter in the summer.

Now he used his entry into the CSU again to criticize the SPD leadership.

“I know the SPD very well.

The officials are increasingly only concerned with themselves,” he told SPIEGEL.

That leaves little time for design.

With a view to the change to the CSU, Post praised the good interaction within the party.

“I've always liked how easy it was to deal with CSU colleagues.

Peter Ramsauer became one of my best personal friends.

And in Munich it's also the case that I didn't just deal with colleagues but with friends," he told SPIEGEL.

On the other hand, he expressed clear criticism of the tone within the SPD.

»Of course, sometimes in politics people fight hard.

But there will certainly not be another approach like that in the SPD.«

Post was seen by the Social Democrats as a party rebel.

From 2013 to 2021 he sat for the SPD in the Bundestag.

There he was noticed above all by sharp criticism of Olaf Scholz and Andrea Nahles.

In 2019, he accused the former party leader of only wanting to live out her childhood dream of chairing the parliamentary group.

At the time, Post demanded that Nahles resign.

Before the federal elections last year, a former employee from Scholz's ministry in the constituency ran against him, and in spring 2021 the Bavarian SPD Post refused a secure place on the state list.

He was not invited to a campaign appearance by Scholz in Munich.

Post decided to fight only for himself, did a first vote campaign.

Despite one of the best results of all SPD direct candidates in Bavaria, he subsequently lost his mandate.
