The president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, and his Chilean counterpart, Gabriel Boric, announced Tuesday that they will resume the meeting of the Pacific Alliance in Peru that had been suspended.

In a joint statement at the Palacio de la Moneda, in Santiago, Boric stated that "we have agreed with President Castillo to hold the suspended meeting of the presidents of the Pacific Alliance ––that is, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Mexico–– in Peru on a date that we will announce shortly, once we have completed the consultations with the other member countries of the Alliance.

But we are going to give continuity to this important multilateral cooperation that we have between the countries of the Pacific Basin of our America for the exchange with what is today the center of the world, which are the countries of the Asia-Pacific with America-Pacific” .

It should be remembered that the meeting scheduled in Mexico was suspended by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, after the Peruvian Congress denied Castillo authorization to leave the country and attend the meeting.

For his part, Castillo pointed out that “the corresponding follow-up must be done to give answers to these enemies that we have in common, to these historical social gaps, poverty, great inequalities.

There are towns without water, without electricity, without roads.

There are people who are waiting, thousands of compatriots, Chilean and Peruvian brothers, who lack a roof, who lack many things.

And that's what we're looking at."

Castillo's visit to Chile takes place within the framework of the IV Chile-Peru Binational Cabinet of Ministers, which seeks to reach agreements on environmental, economic, cultural and security matters, as well as commemorate 200 years of diplomatic relations between both nations .
