The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, affirmed the support of the international organization for the efforts of the Palestinian people to obtain their inalienable rights, and to build a future of peace, justice, security and dignity.

Guterres made it clear in his speech delivered on his behalf by the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Tatiana Valovaya, during an event organized today on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, according to what Wafa Agency reported, that the long-term causes of what the Palestinian territories are witnessing continue, primarily the occupation, settlement expansion, and the destruction of homes. The displacement operations and the continuation of (Israel) imposing the siege on the Gaza Strip, and the resulting humanitarian crises, once again calling for action to lift the siege and improve the living conditions of all Palestinians.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations indicated that UNRWA will remain the vital artery for all Palestinian refugees, noting the support of donors, and calling on them to enhance sufficient funding so that the Agency can fulfill its mandate and obligations.

Guterres also touched on the position of the United Nations on the Palestinian issue, saying: The peace process must be advanced and the occupation must be ended.

For his part, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office and International Organizations in Geneva, Seymour Mardlev, said in a statement on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement: The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People represents an opportunity to renew our commitment to finding a solution to the Palestinian issue, and the movement has always shown a supportive principled position. for the Palestinian people and their just cause, and renounced the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

Mardelev indicated that the closing statement of the Baku summit in 2019 stressed the need to provide political, economic and humanitarian support to strengthen the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and support efforts to achieve all their national and inalienable rights, including the establishment of their independent state on the line of June 4, 1967, stressing the need Movement towards achieving a sustainable and just settlement of the Palestinian cause.

Mardelev stressed the need to provide protection for the Palestinians in accordance with international humanitarian law, General Assembly resolutions and international legitimacy, and the necessity for the international community to assume its responsibilities to ensure that the occupation does not go unpunished, in addition to making international efforts at the level of the Security Council to urge Israel, as the occupying power, to put an end to illegal settlement operations. in occupied territories and comply with international law including the Fourth Geneva Conventions.
