Kira Weidle from SC Starnberg starts into her seventh World Cup winter.

Before the start on Friday in Lake Louise (Canada), we spoke to the ski racer about her goals for the season.

Starnberg

– Things are getting serious again for Kira Weidle.

The ski racer from Starnberg starts the new World Cup season this week.

The first training session for the downhill in Lake Louise (Canada) is scheduled for Tuesday (10:00 CET).

Two more training runs will follow on Wednesday and Thursday before Weidle's season begins on Friday (8 p.m. CET) with the first World Cup downhill run of the winter.

A second descent is on the program on Saturday, and the race weekend will conclude with the Super-G on Sunday.

Before the start, we spoke to the 26-year-old speed specialist from the Starnberg Ski Club, who has achieved second and three third places in the World Cup and a silver medal at the World Championships in her career so far.

Last year, ahead of the World Cup season, you struggled with some injury issues.

How did the preparation for the upcoming season go?

The preparation went very well this year.

In addition to the European glaciers, I was back in Chile with our boys this year after a two-year Corona break and most recently had a great camp in Copper Mountain.

Your seventh World Cup season is coming up.

What are your specific goals?

For this year it is again important to finish at least in the top ten.

I also hope to be able to celebrate my first World Cup victory.

The highlight of the season this winter is the World Championships from February 6th to 19th in France.

With what expectations do you go to Courchevel Meribel?

After I already won silver at the 2021 World Championships, there is only one way to improve (laughs).

Of course I have my sights set on a medal this time too.

With Andreas Puelacher, the DSV women have had a new head coach since this year.

What has changed under the direction of the Austrian?

With Andi Puelacher we have a very experienced and successful new head coach.

He comes from men's sports and knows exactly where we need to go even further to the limit or improve our skiing technique.

Will you continue to specialize in the speed disciplines Downhill and Super-G this year?

This year I had more giant slalom training on my schedule, but I'll stick to the speed disciplines in the World Cup for the time being.

Corona hardly plays a role in most people's everyday lives.

Is it the same with you in the World Cup circus or are there still certain restrictions or regulations?

At the moment there are no special restrictions, but of course everyone will continue to be careful in their own interest.

Has anything else happened to you?

The only thing that's new is that I changed my sticks.

I've been driving with Komperdell since this season.
