Lai Zhiying case|The Department of Justice has confirmed that it has written to the Court of First Instance to request the adjournment of Lai's trial

After the Department of Justice failed to appeal to the Court of Final Appeal on whether Jimmy Lai's violation of the National Security Act could hire British Queen's Counsel Tim Owen, Chief Executive Lee Ka-chao immediately stated that he would submit to the Central Committee the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on the "Hong Kong National Security Act".


After the Department of Justice failed to appeal to the Court of Final Appeal on whether Jimmy Lai's violation of the National Security Act could hire British Queen's Counsel Tim Owen, Chief Executive Lee Ka-chao immediately expressed a request to the Central Committee for the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to interpret the "Hong Kong National Security Law".

He also said this morning that the Attorney General will apply for an adjournment of the trial.

The Department of Justice also stated that they have sent a letter to the Court of First Instance to apply for an adjournment of Lai's case, and they will not comment on the details of the ongoing case.

According to the website of the judiciary, Lai's case still shows that there will be a hearing in the High Court on December 1.


Li Zhiying (74 years old) and Apple Daily Co., Ltd., Apple Daily Printing Co., Ltd. and Apple Daily Internet Co., Ltd. were each charged with one count of conspiracy to publish seditious publications and conspiracy to collude with foreign forces.

Li was separately charged with two counts of conspiring with Chen Zihua, Mark Simon, Li Yuxuan and others to collude with foreign forces.

The case was originally scheduled to start trial on December 1 this year, and it is expected to take 30 days.
