With a letter sent to Palazzo Chigi, the Campania Region expressed a negative opinion on the appointment by the Council of Ministers of Simonetta Calcaterra as commissioner for the Casamicciola emergency.

Sources in the Region confirm the press rumors.

Since last July Calcaterra has been extraordinary commissioner of the Municipality of Casamicciola after the dissolution of the institution due to the resignation of the majority of councilors.

The appointment was decided on Sunday by the CDM but the opinion of the Region is binding.

For years he has been fighting to "find a practicable and common-sense solution to unauthorized use", and today, after the Casamicciola tragedy, the mayor of Casal di Principe, Renato Natale, is clear: "in Ischia - he says - we need to demolish because it deals with houses in areas at risk but it must be done on the basis of a state plan. In Casal di Principe it is different".

"With us - he says - there are no situations of risk in the area but houses built with sacrifice and in years when the state was not there, but the Camorra was in charge: they must be saved so as not to create social and housing problems".

A dl Ischia, with aid to the areas affected by the landslide, should be examined by the Council of Ministers on Thursday.

Among the measures being studied to be included in the legislative decree, for the areas in which a state of emergency has already been declared, the municipalities of Casamicciola and Lacco Ameno, there would also be the suspension of taxes until the end of the year, with a commitment to renew it in 2023, the extension of the obligations for professionals who cannot work due to the damage caused by the exceptional meteorological events that hit the island on Saturday, and the extension for another year of the dismantling of the branch courts.

The search activities for the 4 missing from the Casamicciola flood continue by the firefighters.

A passage has been opened which will allow emergency vehicles, with special equipment, to reach the upper area of the town more easily where the search for the last four missing persons continues, underlines Luca Cari, firefighters communications manager.

The activity continues unabated even if at the moment there are no news.

Casamicciola, the firefighters dig in the mud in search of the missing

"Since the island of Ischia is in this situation and there are alarms, which I gave, it was necessary for these citizens to be warned, you must leave here because it is dangerous".

These are the words of Giuseppe Conte, former mayor of Casamicciola, in Agorà Rai Tre, conducted by Monica Giandotti, on the tragedy of Ischia.

The Prosecutor of Naples investigates the unheeded alarms.

The former mayor reported that 4 days before the tragedy, i.e. on November 22, he had sent certified emails to the competent authorities (the prefect of Naples, the prefectural commissioner of Casamicciola, the mayor Manfredi and the Civil Protection of Campania) to warn them of the risks that the citizens of Casamicciola ran due to the abundant rainfall forecast.

There is no time to process the pain in Casamicciola, where the mud today returned the eighth body, that of the young Michele Monti, 15 years old.

For the rescuers engaged in the excavation work, the imperative is to hurry, before a new wave of bad weather, announced between tomorrow and Wednesday on the southern regions, makes it impossible to find the four missing people, of whom there is still no trace.

The firefighters, 160 who have been in action for over 48 hours on the island, have concentrated their activity on via Celario, the road that no longer exists, erased by the mudslide that detached from Mount Epomeo during the night between Friday and Saturday.

There, in the early hours of the day, the body of Michele was found, who with his little brothers Maria Teresa and Francesco, found yesterday,

he formed one of the two families erased by the tragedy.

The family dog was also found dead.

The parents are still missing, father Gianluca, taxi driver, and mother Valentina.

With them presumably, we learn from the prefecture, also the companion of Eleonora Sirabella and another young woman.

No one is under any illusions: over time, finding them alive would make one cry for a miracle.

We look in via Celario, the epicenter of this tragedy, from where even today shreds of broken life have emerged: a stuffed animal, a pan and other objects that tell of a daily life that will never be the same again.

But today divers have begun to scan the depths of the stretch of sea closest to the port with sonar.

Finding the missing and surrounding the red zone,

to understand how many buildings have been involved in the landslide, and if and when the inhabitants will be able to return to their homes, these are the priorities of the rescuers.

In the background the controversies remain.

The departure of the former mayor of Casamicciola, Giuseppe Conte, suggests.

Four days before the landslide he would have reported to the Prefecture and Civil Protection the risks for the population of Casamicciola linked to the hydrogeological instability without receiving an answer.

Just as the issue of abuse holds the table.

The exit of Environment Minister Pichetto, who would like to "put the mayors and all those who let things go, in jail" is being discussed.

He sally that he has created embarrassment within the government itself.

"Campania is the region where 64.3% of the buildings are illegal, at least let's save ourselves the crocodile tears" the outstretched intervention of the general attorney of Naples Luigi Riello.

The WWF also speaks of announced tragedy and hypocritical tears.

"First we give a dignified burial to the, unfortunately, further victims, and then we talk about responsibility - replies the Minister for Civil Protection Nello Musumeci from a distance - and also about corrective measures because the current legislation needs concrete and sometimes even radical interventions".

A dossier from Legambiente recalls how the

Italy is also divided when it comes to demolishing illegal houses: the North is doing well, where on average 40 to 60% of illegal buildings are demolished, the South is not doing well, where the percentages drop to 10-20%.

The Public Prosecutor of Naples has opened a file: it will first of all be ascertained whether the houses overwhelmed by the flood were illegal or subject to demolition.

The number of displaced persons continues to grow, with 230 official ones, a number destined to grow.

For them, the Red Cross has started a collection of aid, but the whole solidarity machine has been set in motion.

Solidarity expressed today also by an exceptional Ischian, the former German chancellor Angela Merkel.

After the aid announced by the Government, today it was the turn of the Campania Region to allocate 4 million for primary needs.
