The Gießen-Friedberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce has placed an ad with demands on "politics" to work for peace in Ukraine.

The members are angry.

Gießen – Last weekend, a full-page advertisement by the business representation in the Frankfurter Allgemeine (FAZ) caused a sensation among the members of the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Gießen-Friedberg.

The local IHK, signed by President Rainer Schwarz and Managing Director Dr.

Matthias Leder, together with the Halle-Dessau Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Cottbus Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Halle (Saale) Chamber of Crafts, called on "politics" to work more actively to end the war in Ukraine, like giessener-allgemeine.de reported.

"If peace is not talked about, it simply remains unattainable," said the committees.

And: Peace must be talked about at least as much as war.

Peace does not fall from the sky.

It must be wanted and created - by people, by prudent politics and clever diplomacy.

However, the ad leaves just as open who exactly should stand up for peace in the war of aggression started by Russia against Ukraine, as it ignores the fact that only aggressor Vladimir Putin can actually end this war.

Display of the IHK Gießen-Friedberg: An unexplained misunderstanding?

At the request of this newspaper, the IHK Gießen-Friedberg rowed back on Monday evening and surprisingly claimed that the ad was based "on a misunderstanding".

»There was no cooperation with the IHK Cottbus and Halle-Dessau.

The text is not an official statement by the IHK Gießen-Friedberg.

We apologize for the misunderstanding.

The IHK Gießen-Friedberg did not incur any costs for the publication," said the press office.

Yesterday, the IHK did not want to explain how this "misunderstanding" came about.

Among some members of the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the ad had caused bewilderment over the weekend.

Managing Director Leder is accused of having once again single-handedly damaged the IHK and misused its financial resources from membership fees to present his political convictions.

According to the information in this newspaper, the form and content of the advertisement had not been agreed either in the presidency or in the plenary meeting that is taking place today.

IHK Gießen-Friedberg: Controversial claims in the display

In the summer, an East German institution in the Halle-Saale District Craftsmen's Association wrote a letter to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, expressing "concerns about the future of our children and grandchildren".

At the time, she called for an "immediate stop to all sanctions against Russia."

Europe, and Germany in particular, are the losers from the sanctions.

In addition - it said in the letter - "all political decisions should be checked for their benefit for the German people".

The ad also attacks Germany's energy policy and criticizes the associated burden.

The committees are also demanding that the three active German nuclear power plants remain connected to the grid longer than just April 2023, are in favor of the controversial fracking and call on politicians to "use all pipeline options" when it comes to energy generation.

The ad leaves open whether this also means the return to Nord Stream 1 and 2.

There was criticism last year.

At the time, the Gießen-Friedberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry was of the opinion that the statistics from the Robert Koch Institute did not adequately reflect the corona infection process.

She called for an opening perspective.
