The "murder" and "attempted suicide" cases occurred in Hoi Fu Court, Tai Kok Tsui last evening (29th). The police explained the case to the media in the early morning of today (30th).
It is understood that the 64-year-old deceased was friends with the 51-year-old suspect. The deceased temporarily stayed at the suspect's home, but was involved in a "love triangle" sexual dispute, causing murder.
Suspecting that the deceased had an affair with his girlfriend, the suspect was so angry that he poured suspicion water on the other party, and then chopped the other party more than 10 times to death.
After the incident, the suspect also suffered burns all over his body, and once tried to commit suicide in fear of crime, he was rescued and sent to the hospital in critical condition.
The Crime Squad of the Mong Kok District has taken over the case.
At about 2 o'clock in the morning today, the police explained the case at the opposite side of Haixin Pavilion, Block F, Haifuyuan.
Mong Kok Police District Assistant Commander (Criminal) Superintendent Cheng Zhiren said that the two men involved in the case were both Chinese nationals. The deceased was 64 years old and the suspect was 51 years old. Both were unemployed.
At about 6:22 last night, the police first received a report from a female resident at the above address, saying that someone outside her unit was yelling for help.
Five minutes later, the police arrived at the scene and found the deceased lying in the corridor with multiple knife wounds and burns suspected to be caused by corrosive liquids. He was immediately sent to Kwong Wah Hospital, and the rescue was carried out until 7:10 p.m. points, confirmed dead.
During the investigation, the police received another report from the suspect, who claimed to have killed the deceased in the case earlier.
Officers then went to his unit, broke into the house, and found him sitting by the window trying to jump off the building, holding a bottle of corrosive liquid.
Firefighters and police negotiators arrived at the scene to persuade the suspect. The suspect was rescued by firefighters and returned to the unit. However, he was emotional at the time and also had burns suspected to be caused by corrosive liquids, so he was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. After rescue, he was in critical condition.

After preliminary investigation, the police believed that the deceased and the suspect were friends, and the deceased temporarily stayed at the suspect's home.
At the time of the incident, the suspect suspected that the deceased had an affair with his girlfriend, and the two had a heated argument. At that time, there were only two of them in the unit. The suspect first attacked with corrosive liquid. The deceased escaped from the unit, but when he ran to the corridor , was again attacked by the suspect with a knife from behind, and eventually died.
Near the lying position of the deceased, the police found a fruit knife about 30 centimeters in length, and also seized 5 used drain water bottles, each 800 ml.
After a preliminary forensic examination, the deceased had more than 10 stab wounds, including both necks, shoulders, and forearms. The neck wounds were about 5 to 6 cm on each side; the deceased also had extensive burn marks on the body, which are believed to be caused by corrosive liquid. However, the detailed cause of death has yet to be determined by autopsy.
As for the suspect, there were also burn marks suspected to have been caused by the ditch water, and the police are investigating whether he had drunk it.
The man who was attacked was bloodied all over his body and had burn marks. He was certified dead after being sent to the hospital.

The police said that the arrested man, surnamed Deng (51 years old), has been arrested on suspicion of "murder" and is currently being detained for investigation.
The police will arrange an autopsy for the deceased surnamed Li (64 years old) later to determine the cause of death.
