500 additional places in children's leisure facilities on Wednesday afternoons: this is one of the measures which should gradually see the light of day from January 1, 2023. "

The City of Nantes

is continuing its socio-cultural animation policy, and enriches it with new orientations which will contribute to improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of Nantes

”, rejoices Mahaut Bertu, elected assistant for associative life.

Currently, the Accoord offers "

3200 places

", specifies Mathias Cadot, general manager of the popular education association in charge of extra-curricular activities in the City for 30 years.

The structure takes care of the 40 leisure centres, the organization of holidays for Nantes children and teenagers, as well as the 22 socio-cultural centres.

A free vacation

Among the other novelties, a 30% increase in the offer of stays.

Currently, 1,700 children and adolescents benefit from it.

Soon, there will be 2,000 of them who will be able to go to Piriac, in the Pyrenees, and even to Germany or Mauritania: "

we have the ambition to take them to meet other cultures and to allow the right to holidays for all

", insists Laurent Hugot, president of the Accoord.

Some will even be able to benefit from free admission for the first stay, and depending on the parents' resource conditions.

The Multispots, which welcome children from priority neighborhoods free of charge in the afternoons in schoolyards during the summer period, will be made permanent.

These changes are part of the renewal of the public service delegation contract of Accoord, the only candidate, with the City of Nantes, for two years.

In anticipation of this deadline, the municipality had sent a survey to 5,800 families in order to best meet their expectations.

Respondents then suggested “

reinforcing the places

”, “ making

the registration process more fluid

” and “

better knowing what is happening in the centers

”, explains Ghislaine Rodriguez, education assistant.

New in cultural centers

At the same time, the Accoord and the City are also renewing for five years an agreement of objectives concerning socio-cultural centres.

In particular, this involves maintaining the assistant-animator scheme, ie recruiting young people from priority neighborhoods into Accoord structures.

It is also the opening of the Maison de quartier de la Halvêque, near tram line 1, in the spring of 2023. Or the language workshops for professional purposes which facilitate the integration of learners into the sectors of services to the person or catering.

All these deliberations will be ratified on December 9, during the next municipal council.

For 2023, the budget planned by the City for these actions is 16,537 million euros.

This represents an increase of 1.6 million euros for both contracts compared to today.
