Neo-Nazi ideas and victim of harassment: this is the young man who murdered four people in two schools in Brazil

2022-11-29T11:16:12.333Z

The 16-year-old teenager, wearing military clothing and a swastika bracelet, used the weapons of his father, a police officer, to kill a classmate and three teachers on Friday in the State of Espirito Santo

It is a profile that is often repeated in this type of tragedies: an adolescent victim of bullying decides to settle scores and violently lashes out at classmates and teachers.

This is what happened last Friday in the small city of Aracruz, in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo.

A 16-year-old boy, whose identity has not been released, broke into two schools armed with weapons from his father, a police officer, in military clothing and a swastika armband, and shot at those who allegedly made his life miserable.

He murdered a student and three teachers.

Another 11 were injured, including three seriously.

The police offered some details this Monday at a press conference.

After carrying out the massacre, the assailant returned to his house, hid the weapons, and sat down to eat with his parents, who had already found out about the murders.

When they discussed it with him, he played the clueless.

And then, the three went to another family home on the beach, explained the commissioner André Jaretta.

This has also revealed that the minor had been planning an attack, at least since 2019, when he began to suffer harassment from some colleagues, who gave him derogatory nicknames.

“Starting in 2020, he began to prepare and plan better, but he did not tell anyone.

He kept it to himself, feeding that feeling of hate inside of him ”, he has said.

Investigators are analyzing whether he really acted like a lone wolf or whether he had the support of some neo-Nazi group, which is increasingly abundant in Brazil.

He will be charged with four murders and ten attempted murders.

It is clear that he found many facilities at home.

He carried out the massacre with the weapons of his father, a lieutenant of the Military Police.

He used a 40-caliber pistol (which belongs to the State and was used by the agent at work) and a 38-caliber revolver from his father's collection.

Local authorities were surprised by the minor's ability with weapons and are now investigating whether the father had anything to do with it.

The murderous teenager also used his parents' car, whose license plate he covered to avoid being identified.

It is very likely that neo-Nazi ideas also run in the family, since his father had published the cover of the book My Struggle,

by Adolf Hitler

, on his social networks .

"A lousy book, I read it and I hated it," he said when asked about the subject by the UOL portal.

The father would have bought the book for his son to try to get closer to him, because he had no friends and at home he was also a type of few words.

Érick Serafim Zuccolotto, father of the murdered girl, Selena, 12, believes that the family environment had a lot to do with it: “He is a minor, but the parents are responsible for creating the monster they created.

That boy had a swastika on his arm, he clearly had a lot of hate in his heart and that is not something that comes from one day to the next, ”he said in a video sent to a television channel.

The attack caused a strong social commotion (which even mobilized the player of the Richarlison team, who from the World Cup in Qatar, where he scored the two goals of the Brazilian debut, expressed his solidarity with the victims), and reopened the debate on the easing of the possession and use of weapons promoted by the Government of Jair Bolsonaro.

It also generated reflections on structural racism in the media.

A photo ignited the controversy.

The

Estadão

newspaper published a tweet that read: “Shooting attack at a school in Espírito Santo.

Why are there more and more cases like this in Brazil?”

and he illustrated the news with a photo of a black hand holding a weapon, when the whole country already knew that the young man was white and, furthermore, of neo-Nazi ideology.

After the barrage of criticism, the tweet was deleted.
