Gauting

– Gauting, November 28, 2022, 10:30 a.m.

There is no wind, the Würm is rippling, the sun is fighting its way through the blanket of fog.

For the energy supply, this means that 17 percent of the regional electricity is currently supplied from on-site energy sources.

Photovoltaic systems contribute 268 kilowatt hours, hydropower 39, and other producers, including biomass, 136.

How do you know that exactly?

Since this Monday, a tool has been available on the municipality's website that is updated every 15 minutes.

"At the end of each day, we as a municipality can take stock and ask ourselves: How green was the local energy mix today?" said Mayor Dr.

Brigitte Kössinger at the press presentation on Monday.

This meaningful tool should not be underestimated in its effect.

"There is now an awareness of the importance of generating energy locally and being independent of importers," said Wilhelm Rodrian, the municipality's environmental manager.

"And here you can see in black and white how much is still missing for energy self-sufficiency, which the community has committed to by 2035." Kössinger sees it that way too.

"The information is intended to motivate people to save energy on the one hand and to increase self-sufficiency on the other."

It didn't take a lot of effort to make the tool.

"There's an algorithm behind it," explained Silke Mall, head of municipal management in Upper Bavaria at Bayernwerke.

It took several weeks to get the site up and running.

In addition to Gauting, only the municipality of Berg currently has such a tool.

When it comes to hydropower, Gauting is doing well

The least thing to worry about in Gauting is hydroelectric power, which is almost exhausted thanks to the Würm.

Five hydroelectric power plants – two at the Reismühle, one at the E-Werk, one in Stockdorf and one in Grubmühl – divert as much energy as possible without interfering too much with the natural balance.

"You can't ignore the natural current either," says Rodrian.

"Otherwise the water management office would certainly get involved."

It is encouraging that more and more people are installing photovoltaic systems on their roofs.

“There were 80 in the church this year,” Rodrian said.

It also has to do with the world situation.

“Today there are good reasons to deal with the arguments for green energy.

The fear mongering of the past no longer works.”

No wind turbine in the municipal area yet

There is still some catching up to do when it comes to wind energy, as there is not a single wind turbine in the municipal area.

But that should change soon.

Concentration areas are currently being identified.

"There will be wind turbines in all areas and we will get used to the sight," said the mayor.

Silke Mall gave the all-clear on the current topic of blackouts.

"It is very unlikely that there will be a large-scale, long-lasting power outage," she said.

Energy security in Germany is higher than almost anywhere else in the world, and there are only 13 minutes of power outages in Germany every year.

"You shouldn't let yourself be unsettled."
