Two climate activists of the "last generation" stuck themselves in the concert hall of Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie.

For their action, the climate stickers now earned ridicule and scorn on the Internet.

Hamburg – The alliance of climate activists “Last Generation” has repeatedly made a name for itself.

The mostly young climate fighters daub paintings, abseil down motorway bridges or stick themselves to main roads.

One action led two activists to Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie.

With their action, however, the two primarily earned ridicule and scorn.

Climate sticker in the Elbphilharmonie: Security makes short work of it

Just before the start of a Beethoven violin concert on November 23, the two activists climbed onto the stage from the front row, each donned a bright orange safety vest and taped their hands to a pole on the conductor's podium.

The activists appealed urgently to the concert-goers: “I am standing here today because we are collectively suppressing the climate catastrophe and thus taking away a life of security and peace from our children!

Just as there is only one Beethoven violin concerto, we only have this one planet whose boundaries we so disregard that climate-related disasters are becoming more frequent and deadly.”

The “Last Generation” reported on the action in the Elbphilharmonie on their website and repeated their appeal: “There will be no more Elbphilharmonie to enjoy Beethoven when Hamburg is under water.

The crisis is escalating right now, before our eyes!”

They refer to several articles on the subject of climate and the dramatic rise in sea levels.

Security service pulls activists out of the concert hall - "Activists are idiots"

The whole action lasted only a few minutes, and employees of the Elbphilharmonie made short work of the young activists.

The pole to which the climate protectors had glued themselves was simply inserted into the desk.

The security service simply pulled this pole out of its anchorage and they and the glued-on activists left the hall to the applause of the concert-goers.

The concert started just six minutes late.

A photo of the two activists, which shows them in the hallway of the Elbphilharmonie - still taped to the pole - caused scorn and ridicule on Twitter.

Journalist and author Hasnain Kazim shared the photo on his profile and wrote: "As much as I share efforts to protect climate change, I get the impression that Last Generation activists are chumps pushing the issue want to draw ridiculous ones.”

"Completely bogged down" or unjustified criticism?

- Action splits Twitter users

With his contribution, he found some approval on the Internet: "That was comedy gold and gives the statement of the climate protest the stab in the back.

The "Last Generation" got completely bogged down in the assumption that all PR is good PR." However, other users criticized the re-distribution of the photo: "I find the form of protest of the LG [Last Generation] completely counterproductive and do not believe in their actions, but I like the photo of the two.

You can see that they weren't prepared for it and it shames these two people (...).”

However, many users defended the “last generation” campaign: “Very few people know whether a railing like this can be removed.

The criticism is unjustified.

The activist group is at least doing something in contrast to all the chair farts, and anyone who complains about the alleged "radicality" of such harmless actions has not heard the shot," wrote one user.

"Brilliant team play!" - climate stickers are approved online

Another user pointed out to the author of the Twitter post that, despite his criticism, he himself was helping to spread the activists' message: "In that sense, it is completely irrelevant whether activists are glued to the conductor's podium for one minute or three hours.

You should thank them for being smart enough to use a portable part - you gave them a big stage via tweet.

Brilliant team play!”

The "last generation" will hardly be stopped by the critical voices.

Some 19 climate activists were imprisoned in Stadelheim for almost a month.

Shortly after their release, they announced further actions - they were ready to "turn it up again".
