Shot in the head on the street: investigations in Krefeld

Shots were fired in downtown Krefeld on Monday evening.

A 42-year-old man is discovered on the sidewalk with a shot in the head.

For him, any help comes too late.

Investigators do not believe that he was a random victim.

Krefeld - After the shooting of a 42-year-old on the street, the homicide squad in Krefeld is looking for two men.

A 42-year-old was shot dead in the city center on Monday evening.

Witnesses heard several shots around 7:50 p.m. and saw two men running away in the dark, investigators said on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said the dead man was known to police for drug and property crimes.

"We do not assume that he is a random victim." A shot hit the victim in the head.

His body was lying on the sidewalk after the crime.

She will now be autopsied, it said.

The Albanian has lived in Germany for four years.

The day after, bullet holes were found on a mailbox and an intercom on a house facade at the scene of the crime.

Around 30 riot police officers searched for the murder weapon under parked cars, in parks and on a railway embankment.

Homicide officers questioned residents on the street.

The two fleeing men were of normal build, according to witnesses.

One was wearing a dark jacket, light trousers and a light headgear, the other a dark jacket with a prominent logo on the back, dark trousers and a dark hat.

It was initially unclear whether the victim was on a bicycle at the time of the crime.

"There was a wheel lying around at the crime scene, but it's also possible that someone just knocked it over," it said.
