The "memory" of ASV Josef Hoffmann is dead

The ASV Dachau mourns the longtime honorary member and former board member.
Dachau – Great sadness at ASV Dachau: The long-standing honorary member and former board member Josef Hoffmann died at the age of 87.
Hoffmann, born on November 12, 1935, was a driving force of the club in the post-war period.
In the gymnastics department at that time, he was one of the most dedicated “pre-gymnasts”, as the trainers were still called at the time.
In his youth, Hoffmann dared a short trip to the handball team, but returned to the gymnastics department after a short time.
At the age of 17, Josef Hoffmann took over his first offices in the club.
The gymnastics department was an affair of the heart for him.
From 1973 he was also involved in the main association and was a youth leader from 1973.
In 1995 he resigned from this office and took over the office of Senior Citizens' Representative on the same day.
Legendary is his work over decades in organizing trips for seniors or taking care of the club bowling alley.
His unbelievable urge to create, combined with modesty and absolute reliability, shaped ASV Dachau.
Hoffmann was also the "memory" of the club.
“Beps”, as everyone called him, spent countless hours in the ASV archive, sorting, pasting and collecting newspaper articles, photos and club magazines.
As an archivist and contemporary witness, he was significantly involved in the exhibition about Georg Scherer, the long-time chairman of the ASV.
Hoffmann received, among other things, the ASV medal of merit in gold, the citizen's medal of the city of Dachau and various awards from the Bavarian State Sports Association.
"Beps Hoffmann not only deserved it, he accepted it modestly and then expanded his efforts even more motivated," recalls ASV chairman Andreas Wilhelm and adds: "We say goodbye to a very committed ASVer, who always knew how to motivate others to motivate by leading with enthusiasm and a good example.
With him go a lot of knowledge about the club and several decades of incredible commitment.
But we will continue to see, feel and use his traces and deeds.” dn
