Shaked Karina on Zeev Citadel: "Without B. There is no Bibi" (Walla system!)
Outgoing Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked announced today (Tuesday) that she rejected an asylum request by a woman from Sierra Leone - even though the Advisory Committee on Refugee Affairs unanimously recommended that the request be approved.
According to the minister, "The Refugee Convention is not intended to address all types of difficulties, and negative effects from which hundreds of millions of people in developing countries suffer, therefore it is necessary to set a certain threshold that can be considered persecution."
Shaked stated in her reasoning that the custom known as "women's word" does not consist of one part and there are different types of procedures that need to be distinguished between them.
According to Shaked, in practice, some of the procedures are similar or even easier than the ritual of the birth of children, and only some of them have the potential for more serious damage that can be considered persecution in the appropriate cases.
"It is unlikely that the State of Israel will recognize any kind of cultural custom that affects hundreds of millions of people as a reason for deportations in Israel," Shaked wrote.
