The American island of Hawaii witnessed an eruption, the first in about 40 years, of Mauna Loa, the largest active volcano in the world, and it spewed ash without posing any threat to the residents of the surrounding areas.
And Agence France-Presse quoted the American Geophysical Institute as saying that the “Mauna Loa” eruption began yesterday and is still spewing lava from its crater, indicating that the matter does not currently pose any threat to inhabited areas.
The institute pointed out that “there is no indication that the eruption is advancing towards the rift area,” allowing magma to advance more easily underground.
And the institute had warned in its first warning issued last Sunday that “the early stages of the Mauna Loa eruption could develop rapidly” and that the locations and progress of the lava flow could change rapidly.
Mauna Loa is 4,169 meters high and is located on the island of Hawaii, the largest in the Pacific archipelago.
The volcano has previously erupted 33 times since 1943, and it erupted for the last time in 1948, and its eruption lasted 22 days.
