The city of Wolfratshausen is now promoting balcony power plants.

The offer is aimed at house and apartment owners and renters.

Wolfratshausen – The city is setting a good example.

Four municipal properties (the old pump house on the western bank of the Loisach, the front and middle building of the city archives on Bahnhofstrasse, the homeless shelter on Münchner Strasse and the day-care center on Badstrasse) are to be retrofitted with a photovoltaic (PV) system.

As reported, this was decided by the building committee of the city council.

In addition, according to the municipality, "with a new support program, an impulse for the energy transition in the rafting town".

The starting signal has already been given, since October 1st the purchase of plug-in solar devices, so-called balcony power plants, as well as innovative battery storage systems for residential buildings have been financially supported.

The offer is aimed at house and apartment owners, homeowners' associations and tenants.

"The city of Wolfratshausen declared a climate emergency in 2019 and is thus providing an incentive for citizens to invest in the expansion of renewable energies," explain Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner and Vivian Horngacher, environmental and climate protection manager in the city hall, in a press release.

The duo expects the municipal funding program to be well received.

In view of the galloping energy prices, the demand for solar systems is currently very high nationwide.

"The investment in the energy transition is doubly worthwhile - for the climate and for your own wallet," says Horngacher.

In principle, the requirements of public law regulations, technical building regulations and recognized rules of technology must be observed.

The legal framework stipulates that the plug-in solar devices may include one or two modules, the standard modules have a nominal output of 300 watts.

The small PV systems "can cover a good part of their own base load during the day," says the expert.

Even if the electricity is consumed directly on site (refrigerator, washing machine, electric car), the balcony power plants must be registered with the network operator and the Federal Network Agency (www.bundesnetzagentur.de).

Horngacher: "Basically, the requirements of public law regulations, technical building regulations and recognized rules of technology must be observed."

Application forms are available on the website of the city of Wolfratshausen

The Bavarian Consumer Advice Center rated plug-in solar devices as economical.

Accordingly, the mini-PV systems usually produce enough electricity to cover a significant part of the base load and the midday peak of a household on sunny days.

The consumer advice center has also quantified the contribution to climate protection: the small solar system saves around 2.5 tons of CO2 emissions in 20 years.
