Scandal in the palace: The godmother of the heir to the throne, Lady Susan Hussey, announced today (Wednesday) her immediate resignation from her duties in the palace after it became clear that at a festive event held in the royal residence she expressed racism, even if probably not on purpose, against one of the guests.

The event, which was held by the wife of King Charles, Camilla, as part of her activities to fight gender violence, included many guests, including Ngozi Polani, director of an association called Sistah Space ("Space for a Sister"), who is black.
According to the documentation of the sequence of events at the reception, the 83-year-old godmother asked the director of the association "Where are you really from?"
When Polani clarified that she and her organization were from Britain, Hussey insisted, "No, where are you from, what part of Africa did you come from?".
When the senior gave the same answer again, the godmother did not let go: "No, but what is your citizenship."
Polani, whose association helps victims of domestic violence, wrote on social media after the incident that she felt she had "perverted" and that in addition to the blunt questions, the godmother also asked to see her name tag.
As mentioned, Buckingham Palace has known various scandals, including in this sensitive issue.
For example, about a year ago, after accusations were made by the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle (wife of Prince Harry) that officials in the palace were concerned about the color of their baby's skin, the palace reacted unusually to the claim and said that it would act on the matter.
Even after publicizing the incident on Wednesday, the palace was quick to act in a damage control fashion.
A spokesman for William said the incident was "extremely unfortunate".
The spokesman added that even though William himself was not there, he said that "there is no place for racism in our society. This statement is unacceptable and it is good that that person left his duties in the palace."
