On the occasion of the 16-day campaign to combat violence against women, the Syrian Family Planning Association in Lattakia, in cooperation with the Revolutionary Youth Union and the United Nations Population Fund, held an artistic celebration today, at the Al-Assad House of Culture.

The celebration included artistic performances, playing the oud, singing stanzas, traditional songs, and ballet dancing, which were performed by the Revolutionary Youth Union choir, and received interaction from the audience.

The local coordinator of the Family Planning Association, Ghiath Zibok, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that the event is held periodically to shed light on the issue of violence in its various psychological and physical forms, indicating that everyone is concerned with eliminating this phenomenon and promoting basic values ​​such as equality and social justice.

In her turn, a member of the leadership of the Revolutionary Youth Union branch, Sandy Al-Khair, head of the Culture and Information Office, stated that, in cooperation with the Family Planning Association, activities, sessions and dialogue seminars are held to increase awareness and culture, targeting the youth segment with the aim of conveying the right idea of ​​the correct mechanism for dealing with women.

Tania Al-Khair, the supervisor of the Safe Spaces Center at the association, also indicated that the campaign bears the slogan “Hand in Hand.. Word and Action.. Our responsibility is all to combat violence.” Today’s celebration is to introduce her and the efforts of the association in assisting and empowering women.

While the psychological support presenter, Lillian Muhanna, explained that the association has allocated mobile medical teams targeting about 26 villages within the governorate, which includes a cadre consisting of gynecologists, a psychological support provider, and a case manager, and the sessions are implemented within the villages and specialized health clinics in the governorate.

Case manager Pascal Rustom pointed out that the celebration is to spread awareness among women and help them reduce the prevalence of early marriage and complete their educational attainment, explaining that the association offers vocational education courses to empower women and enable them to provide financial income and be self-reliant.

For her part, Dr. Shadia Al-Khodary, an obstetrician and gynecologist, noted the need to support women and help them to overcome the obstacles and restrictions imposed by society, explaining that she is participating with the mobile medical teams, where all health services are provided to women, including an echocardiogram, and all medical services for free.
