Brussels recommends the freezing of European funds intended for Hungary

2022-11-30T11:46:18.445Z

The European Commission found that the Hungarian government's justice and anti-corruption measures were not sufficient to address its concerns.

The European Commission recommended on Wednesday 30 November to freeze 7.5 billion euros of cohesion funds intended for Hungary and 5.8 billion from the recovery plan until reforms in the areas of justice and the fight against corruption have been properly carried out.

Member States have until December 19 to vote by qualified majority.

The EU executive considered that the measures put in place so far by the Hungarian government were not sufficient to address its concerns.
