Sick leave and shortage of skilled workers: The staffing situation in care facilities is often tense.

The new care pool in the district, which sends helpers to where the need is greatest, is intended to provide relief.

But emergency workers have yet to be found.

District – The past two and a half years have shown what it means when suddenly rows of staff are absent.

The corona pandemic put all sectors under pressure, with hospitals and care facilities being hit particularly hard.

If the virus broke out there, sick patients, residents - and the urgently needed nursing staff.

From now on, the supply was on the brink.

The care pool is intended to be an intermediary between helpers and facilities

"Such acute outbreaks can happen again and again, despite the greatest hygiene and precautionary measures," said Stephanie Hör from the specialist office for seniors in the district.

Together with Andrea Bauer from the home supervision, she presented the newly created care pool at a press event in the Weilheim district office.

This should be an intermediary between helpers and facilities and create a buffer if there are short-term staff shortages.

Hör explained that the care pool is a contact point where interested helpers can get in touch.

"A phone call or an e-mail is enough." The home supervision team and the FQA (specialist office for nursing and disabled facilities, quality development and supervision) takes the contact details of those interested and enters them into the care pool's database.

If there is a shortage of staff in a facility, a district office employee can contact the registered helpers and direct them to the affected location.

The county-wide project is still in its infancy

The district-wide project is still in its infancy.

"With this call we want to make the care pool known," said Hör, who hopes to be able to find many helpers quickly.

In order to feed the database with qualified workers, we are looking for people who come from the medical and nursing field and can make their labor available.

"In particular, we are looking for trained geriatric nurses and helpers, health workers and helpers, nurses and helpers, curative education nurses and rescue and emergency paramedics," listed Hör.

The prerequisite is that the helpers are willing to step in at short notice in the current crisis situation.

The care pool has no say in details such as remuneration, exact activities or working hours.

That is always negotiated directly between the deployment site and the support staff, explained Hör.

How big the care pool will be is still completely open

The size to which the care pool will grow is still open, said Hör.

But one thing is clear: the more, the better.

"Every helping hand counts."

District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß was enthusiastic about the new care pool.

In writing, she announced that "the well-being of the citizens in need of care is very important to her".

"It is therefore very important to me that the care facilities of the district are able to ensure the care of the residents even in emergency situations." With the care pool, the district wants to provide support "quickly and unbureaucratically", says Jochner-Weiss.

Anyone who can provide short-term help as a helper

if necessary or has questions about the care pool can contact the home supervision/FQA of the district on 08861/2113182 or heimaufsicht@lra-wm.bayern.de.
