He stuck to the Isartor to protest against climate change - now he has to face the consequences: Since yesterday, activist Simon L. has been on trial.

Instead of admonishing, he puts on a bizarre show.

Munich - withered meadows in summer, storm surges in autumn.

Climate change is real - and it is dangerous.

That he poses a threat - for all of us: Most people have long agreed on that.

So the question remains how to deal with it.

Simon L. (25) opted for a radical variant: on February 4, he stuck himself to Isartorplatz on Frauenstrasse - and thus blocked the traffic.

Police officers had to free his hand with solvent and then took the climate activist away.

Chaos reigned around the Isartor for around three hours.

A mess that Simon L. is now trying to justify with questionable motives.

“I tried to stand up for climate protection.

With our symbolic blockade, we wanted to trigger government action," Simon L. said on Monday before the district court.

There, the activist is accused of coercion - because he admitted to leading the sit-in with five other activists.

The "disturbance", as L. calls it, was "a peaceful protest".

However, one that had massively affected traffic in the city center on Friday afternoon.

And posed a danger to motorists and activists.

The authorities don't take a joke in such cases.

Just recently, 19 activists were taken into custody and were being held in the Stadelheim prison.

In the case of Simon L., as in comparable cases, it will probably result in a fine.

But what sets him apart: in court he did not warn, but aggressively and did not point to noble climate goals like other activists.

But delivered a bizarre show: Simon L. applied for office equipment at the beginning of the process because he was defending himself.

That was rejected - as was his activist friends as lawyers.

Simon L. submitted a total of 13 requests for evidence and had to be interrupted dozens of times by the judge because he did not comment properly on the matter, preferring to appear as if at a rally.

He did not do justice to his important climate concern.

The trial will continue on December 16th.
