Researcher Dr. Adnan Awaid tends to various intellectual issues, including awareness, enlightenment, and confronting corruption. In his writings, he is keen on the applied and systematic method, combining literature and thought, and focusing on community issues.
In an interview with SANA, Owaid believes that culture in its general context is the modes of consciousness that are practically embodied in the material and value aspects together, indicating that the prevailing or most present understanding among people is that culture is everything related to the value aspect.
Awaid, who is currently the head of the Deir Ezzor branch of the Arab Writers Union, calls for the production of literature, art, research or solid studies that express human issues, life contradictions and ways of salvation through cultural institutions doing their part to serve society, stressing that it is the duty of the researcher to reflect the concerns and issues of his homeland.
The war that Syria has been subjected to has concerned all literary, artistic and research genres, whether at the level of poetry, short story, novel, plastic art, theater, or research and studies, according to Owaid, indicating that the researcher is the conscience of human society in general, and he is the one who records the history of the civilization to which he belongs. And this is what happened throughout history from the Epic of Gilgamesh through the Odyssey and the Iliad and the era of decline to the literature of the Diaspora, the catastrophe and the setback, and therefore what writers and artists recorded about the stage of war that we are living in today will constitute another station in history.
On the culture of Deir Ezzor, Awaid points out that about two years ago, the branch of the Arab Writers Union in it returned to its vitality, and cultural activities began to appear within its headquarters, just as there has become a diverse and good cultural activity in the Arab Cultural Center and in the Euphrates University, considering that the cultural scene bodes well and indicates that Writers, artists, and writers did not break their spirits with war, but rather increased some of them' determination to give.
Owaid believes that constructive and rational criticism is the means capable of directing literature, art and research towards the truth and contributing to the systematic control of the mechanism of productive works that contribute to the development of the individual and society, pointing out that the issue of developing the human mind comes before the development of anything else.
According to Owaid, some of our “writers, artists, and writers lack the rational approach in their various and numerous productions,” wondering about the number of books that have accumulated due to the inability of its writers to make their productions truly creative and touch people’s realistic concerns at a time when we see people flocking to a good book imbued with the values of reason. And enlightenment and they cut out their living to buy it.
