The municipal council of Ellwangen has reaffirmed its refusal to continue operating the state initial reception (LEA) for refugees.
The CDU and Freie Bürger parliamentary groups unanimously rejected an extension beyond 2022, as a city spokesman said in the evening.
The two factions have a clear majority in the municipal council.
Ellwangen – The Greens and SPD parliamentary groups, on the other hand, spoke out in favor of an extension.
According to the spokesman, the Greens could also imagine permanent operation of the LEA.
Representatives of the Ministry of Migration had previously asked for understanding for the continued operation of the facility at the meeting.
A corresponding agreement with the municipality expires at the end of the year.
Contrary to what the municipal council had hoped, the ministry had not given a possible end date for the operation of the accommodation, it said.
The talks between the city and the ministry are to be continued in the next two weeks.
