Mauna Loa volcano eruption in Hawaii (Reuters)
Mauna Loa, the largest active volcano in the world, erupted this week for the first time in 38 years.
Yesterday (Tuesday), a new lava flow was added from the nearby Kilauea volcano, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
In light of the volcano's eruption, Hawaii Governor David Iga signed an emergency declaration yesterday that allows the emergency administration to take various actions, such as issuing alerts and warnings, as well as assisting with evacuations if necessary.
Mauna Loa and Kilauea, about 20 miles (33 km) apart, have not erupted at the same time since 1984, when Mauna last erupted. The eruptions do not threaten nearby homes or infrastructure, according to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

However, the country's health authorities have warned of poor air quality due to volcanic ash.
Although there is no immediate risk to the communities, the Hawaii National Guard is on alert and the emergency center has been activated, the Hawaii Department of Defense said at a news conference.
Kilauea, a much smaller volcano compared to Mauna Loa, located to its southeast, has been erupting since September 2021. In the 2018 eruption, 700 homes were destroyed, and residents were forced to evacuate.
