Beijing announced today the death of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin at the age of 96.
The Chinese news agency, Xinhua, said: The announcement of Zemin's death was issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the State Council of the People's Republic of China, the National Council of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and the Central Military Commissions of the Communist Party of China and the People's Republic of China, noting that Death was due to leukemia and multi-organ failure.
Zemin served as former General Secretary of the Communist Party of China from 1993 to 2002, the fifth President of the People's Republic of China from 1993 to 2003, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission from 1989 to 2004.
