Deir Ezzor - SANA

The heavy rains in Deir Ezzor governorate since last night caused relative damage to areas of agricultural land in the governorate.

The Director of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Fouad Abdoun, stated in a statement to SANA reporter that the heavy rains that the governorate witnessed reached about 23 mm in some areas, which led to the formation of floods and torrential rains, and caused relative damage to some areas planted with wheat, barley and winter vegetables.

Abdoun indicated that the areas of the affected lands amounted to about 2,500 dunums, while an area of 1,500 dunums of uncultivated lands went out of service as a result of being submerged in flood waters.

Abdoun pointed out that the rains this year reflect positively on the reality of winter crops, especially wheat and barley crops in other regions, and save farmers the costs of watering, in addition to encouraging farmers to plant these crops.
