Special Envoy to Khaybar
Superb, spectacular, and little by little the mystery of their formation is lifted.
In the northwest of Saudi Arabia, all around Khaybar, 218 km south of al-Ula, about 150 km north of Medina, thousands of structures in the shapes of kites, keyholes, polygons , punctuate a desert of ochre, yellow sand, all bristling with white volcanoes, almost unctuous, like a cream cake.
The helicopter makes circles above these long fascinating lines which make one think of the geoglyphs of Nazca in Peru.
These black stone constructions stretch for kilometers around the oasis that we wanted to see while enjoying a trip to al-Ula, a new destination for lovers of archeology and geological wonders.
However, what we see is all the more astounding because we did not know of its existence.
It is a completely different story that then guides our steps: the Jewish occupation of Khaybar.
Here lies their kingdom of Arabia.
