A spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Shura Council, Abu al-Fadl Ammoei, affirmed that Iran has the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, as it is a member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
Ammoei said in a statement to Al-Alam Al-Youm channel: There are no restrictions on raising the level of uranium enrichment, with respect to what Iran needs for its peaceful purposes.
Amoye explained that the strategic initiative law to abolish the ban and protect the interests of the Iranian people issued by the Shura Council obliges the government and the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization to enrich uranium in proportion to what the country needs for peaceful purposes.
Iran had announced earlier to raise the level of enrichment to 60 percent at the Fordow nuclear facility.
