MTR (0066) Tsuen Wan Line Yau Ma Tei Station recently had a train derailment accident that caused the door to fall off. In addition, there have been multiple escalator accidents, which have aroused public concern.
The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Lam Sai-hung, said at the Legislative Council meeting that the government will ask MTR to consider paying performance-related salaries to senior management every year according to the severity of the accident.
Lin Shixiong said that the government has set up an investigation committee on the accident of the door falling off at Yau Ma Tei Station, and invited experts to help find out the cause of the accident. The MTR will submit a detailed investigation report to the government within two months after the accident.
Some members suggested that the amount of fines paid by MTR related to accidents is only a small part of MTR’s profit. It is suggested that the salaries of MTR’s senior executives should be deducted according to the severity of the accident.
Lin Shixiong responded that the government will ask MTR to consider paying performance-related salaries to senior management every year according to the severity of the accident.
However, Lin Shixiong believes that the service performance of the MTR has remained stable in recent years, and the annual service delay of more than 8 minutes has remained low.
