Citizens are concerned about the development around the Sendlinger Tor.

Police say there has been no increase in crime.

Munich – Is Sendlinger Tor Square deteriorating?

More and more people are gathering at Sendlinger Tor, that is the impression of local residents.

Alcoholics meet at the benches around the tram lines, addicts settle down in Nussbaumpark.

Many citizens are concerned about these neglect tendencies.

"Families are increasingly avoiding the playgrounds or no longer send their older children to the park alone," wrote a citizen to the district committee for Ludwigs- und Isarvorstadt.

Focal point around the Sendlinger Tor?

This is how the police assess the situation

But what about these observations?

Do the citizens here have to be afraid?

In fact, the Sendlinger Tor is becoming more and more popular as a meeting place, confirms Rudolf Stadler from the responsible police station 14.

From them alone, 50 people can come together in one day,” he said in the last BA meeting.

However, there were almost never criminal offenses, at most there were disputes within the two groups.

The police are on the move with units every day, checking and reporting drug-related offences.

Place references would often be pronounced.

“Fortunately, we no longer see splashes in the sand of the playground.

But there are always found syringes on neighboring properties," said the police officer.

Discussions about meeting point in Munich: "Night both groups are not present"

According to Stadler, the frequent presence of Munich's local sales force (KAD) has a de-escalating effect on the clientele of both groups.

This leads to better interactions with each other and with passers-by.

In addition, the addicts are cared for by social services.

There are numerous substitution practices around the Nussbaumpark.

The park then serves as a meeting point.

Unfortunately, the fact that drugs are consumed here cannot be completely avoided.

The good news for local residents: "Both groups are not present here at night, they dissolve in the late afternoon," says Stadler.

And in summer, the cultural beer garden in the Nussbaumpark helps.

"The presence of the visitors has a disciplining effect and pushes the addicts away," says the police officer.

Years ago, the bushes in the park were also massively thinned out, which has a positive effect.

Finally, Stadler recommends repeating this annually.
