An unknown perpetrator destroyed a freshly planted cherry tree in Poing: he sawed off almost the entire crown.

The community has offered a reward for relevant information.

Poing - Tree care is no longer: A previously unknown perpetrator saw off the crown of a newly planted cherry tree almost completely.

This was discovered by an employee of the construction depot, and the damage caused is estimated at 900 euros, according to the Poing town hall.

The tree or what is left is on the public green strip on Blumenstraße in Poing-Nord.

The municipal administration speaks in its communication of "destruction of public property" and has offered a reward of around 100 euros for relevant information that leads to the identification of the perpetrator.

As the town hall reports, the crown was professionally cut.

Now she's gone.

Poing: Municipality speaks of "destruction"

The building yard cares for around 4,000 trees in public areas in the municipality of Poing.

These include roadside greenery as well as Bergfeldpark, Bergfeldsee and Reuterpark.

All trees and their condition are recorded in a register with a note as to whether and when tree maintenance is necessary.

Ulrich Huber, who is responsible for the building yard, explained this and how the trees work in the spring at a meeting of the municipal council's building and environmental committee.

According to Huber, the trees are inspected by trained tree inspectors every one and a half to three years.

Among other things, on stability, vitality, proportion of dead wood, wounds and pest infestation.

Depending on the incident, appropriate maintenance measures would be carried out.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)

Should it be necessary for trees to be felled due to damage or construction work, they will be replanted within a year.

Sometimes at a different location if it is no longer possible at the original location.

At the committee meeting in spring, Huber mentioned the new construction of the pedestrian and bicycle underpass at the S-Bahn station as well as the construction of the teaching pool and a canteen south of the Anni Pickert School.

67 trees were felled for the underpass, 36 for the swimming pool and canteen. Replacement plantings are planned at Bergfeldsee, among other places.

Anyone who can provide information about this case of vandalism should either contact the construction depot, telephone (08121) 22391-0, or the Poing Police Inspectorate, telephone (08121) 9917-0.
