In a rear-end collision on Autobahn 8 near Gruibingen (Göppingen district), four trucks collided with each other.
A truck driver was fatally injured, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.
According to the information, a driver was able to free himself from his truck.
The police were initially unable to say what happened to the other two involved.
Ulm - emergency services are on site and would get an idea of the situation, said the spokesman.
The trucks had gotten into each other at the end of a traffic jam.
The Autobahn was closed in the direction of Stuttgart.
