The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that an international forum will be held in the city of Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, during the period from 5 to 8 December next, to discuss the issue of restoring Syrian antiquities, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the conclusion of the Treaty for the Preservation of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
Secretary of the Russian UNESCO Committee, Counselor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Grigory Orgo Nikidze, said in a statement today: Among the topics on the forum's agenda is the discussion of the Great Silk Road, and the restoration of Syrian antiquities, particularly in Palmyra.
The Russian official added, “The Syrian Minister of Culture is scheduled to participate in the forum.”
