Two days after the headshot in Krefeld, two suspects are in custody.
Apparently, a long-planned police action against the drug scene helped.
Krefeld – After the shooting of a 42-year-old on the street in Krefeld, the police arrested two suspects from the local drug scene.
The arrest of the 20 and 26-year-old men at a well-known meeting point of the scene was initially for a different reason, but the two were then suspected of killing, said a police spokeswoman on Wednesday.
A magistrate sent both of them into custody on suspicion of manslaughter.
During the initially routine check of whether the men, one of whom was wanted for another crime, could be connected to the crime, suspicions arose and increased.
The police action on the Krefeld Theaterplatz had already been planned before the shooting.
The autopsy on the victim has meanwhile revealed that the headshot is, as expected, the cause of death.
The police did not provide details for investigative reasons.
The Albanian was shot dead in the city center on Monday evening.
He had lived in Germany for four years and was without a permanent address.
At around 7:50 p.m., witnesses heard several shots and saw two men running away in the dark.
The two suspects are also Albanians.
Police also had a car parked near the scene of the crime towed away.
"We suspect that the car has something to do with the crime," said a police spokesman.
It will now be examined in the same way as the secured projectiles.
Despite an extensive search operation, the murder weapon was also missing with explosives detection dogs.
The man who was shot was known to police for drug and property crimes.
According to investigators, he was not a "big player" in the drug business, but rather a small dealer who also used drugs himself.
