The World Cup in Qatar is discussed controversially.

dr

Bausch-Gall from Amnesty International Germany reports on the human rights situation there - on December 1st in the JIG Grafing.

Grafing – Ever since FIFA decided to host the upcoming soccer World Cup in Qatar, criticism has been pouring in.

Not only does it seem insane in times of climate change to stomp entire districts and stadiums out of the ground for a few weeks of championship.

Qatar's handling of migrant workers has also been heavily criticized.

Central to this is the accusation that Qatar would de facto treat them like slaves: if they were successfully recruited, the migrants would lose their passport and thus their freedom to travel, they would be miserably paid and poorly cared for while at work, even leading to deaths.

The British daily newspaper "The Guardian" recently reported on around 6,500 migrant workers* who have died there since the World Cup was awarded to Qatar.1

Amnesty International is an organization that has been documenting practices that violate human rights by states, organizations, militias, in civil wars and as a consequence of global political decisions for many decades.

In order to also show in Grafing what concrete human consequences the award of the World Cup by FIFA to Qatar still has, we, the youth initiative Grafing eV, together with Amnesty International, invite you to a lecture and discussion by and with Dr.

Ingrid Bausch-Gall.

Under the title “Football: Yes!

– Exploitation: No!”, the aim is to highlight the working conditions and labor law under which migrant workers have to work in Qatar.

A particular focus is placed on the exploitation of construction workers and domestic help (mostly women).

The speaker will address Qatar's political system, name Amnesty's demands and the position of the DFB and FIFA on human rights violations.

Miss Dr.

Bausch-Gall has been active at Amnesty International since 1968 and was a member of the German Federal Executive Committee from 2011 to 2017.

Despite the serious topic, we are particularly pleased to be able to win such an experienced and competent speaker.red
