A moment of shock for a taxi driver on federal highway 307: Suddenly a larger animal sat on the foggy road between Aurach and Neuhaus.

A wolf, the man is convinced.

Neuhaus

– The beams of light from the taxi headlights cut through the foggy soup on the B307.

The driver talks to his passengers, whom he is chauffeuring around 8:30 p.m. from Aurach in the direction of Neuhaus on Saturday evening.

Suddenly, something white and furry appears on the road.

The driver brakes and swerves.

At the same moment, the living obstacle jumps on its four legs, jumps twice and disappears into the dark bank.

“A wolf!” shouts the taxi driver immediately, “we saw a wolf!” And the passengers, whom he humorously calls “my witnesses” to their duty, have no doubt: “Yes, that really was one. "

Wolf on federal road 307: State Office for the Environment checks video

The fact that there is even digital evidence of the possible sighting of the predator is due to the taxi's camera, which recorded the journey behind the windshield.

It can be seen in slow motion that the animal apparently ate something on the roadway before the car arrived.

The entrepreneur forwarded the video to our newspaper - and this in turn to the press office of the Miesbach district office.

After an initial assessment of the size of the animal, its movements and possibly species-typical behavior, the suspicion can by no means be confirmed, says spokeswoman Sophie Stadler.

In view of the short excerpt, it is very difficult to distinguish between wolves, dogs, foxes or even jackals.

For a more detailed examination, the video was therefore sent to the Large Carnivores department of the State Office for the Environment (LfU).

The experts there are also responsible for the final technical assessment.

The LfU could no longer meet them on Monday, the press office announced when asked.

Is it one or not?

District office founded "Task Force Wolf"

The district office has been sensitized to the topic since the increased potential wolf evidence in the summer, says spokeswoman Sophie Stadler.

An in-house “Task Force Wolf” with experts from the nature conservation and hunting authorities as well as the veterinary office and the press office was set up under the leadership of District Administrator Olaf von Löwis.

They have created their own website (www.landkreis-miesbach/wolf) in order to provide citizens with "comprehensive and non-judgmental" information.

At the same time, the structures have been sharpened in order to quickly find a competent contact person for those affected by sightings or even cracks.

With the team leader for technical nature conservation, Josef Faas, you have a “true wolf expert” in office.

Citizens should report potential wolf sightings immediately

In general, citizens who have spotted large predators (wolf, lynx, bear) should report this immediately to the LfU (fachstelle-gb@lfu-bayern.de or 0 92 81 /18 00 46 40).

Outside of office hours, the responsible police station should be informed.

"It's important to act quickly to secure possible leads," emphasizes Stadler.

In order to be able to provide the best possible support on site, the spokeswoman asks that the district office be informed at wolf@lra-mb-bayern.de.
