The representatives of the Ministry of Health arrived today (Wednesday) for an inspection at the factory of the Asem company, this after yesterday the company announced the collection of hummus and tahini products from the "Zabar" series of salads, after the suspected presence of salmonella in some of them was discovered.

The company says that apparently the raw material that was discovered to be contaminated is raw tahini, and it is a unique raw material that is used in the recipe of "Humous Abu Marwan".

"Salmonella is found only in Abu Marwan hummus whose expiration date is 26.12. We decided to expand the collection of the products even though no salmonella findings were found in the tests of the other products, as a precaution," Bassem said.

The company added that customers affected by the recall can contact the customer service center to receive a credit or voucher.

Yesterday, the company announced the suspected presence of salmonella in "Zabar" hummus and tahina, in products with an expiration date of December 26, 2022. According to the company, the source of the problem was the raw tahini used to manufacture the product.

As a precaution, the company said that it decided to collect the products from those production lines, in coordination with the food service of the Ministry of Health.

Later, the head of the public health services division, Sharon Elrai Price, directed the food service to conduct an inspection of the plant in the morning.

The company asked not to consume these products and said, "We apologize for the inconvenience."

The salmonella bacterium can cause intestinal disease in healthy people manifested by fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

For sensitive populations, the bacterium may cause serious illness.
