The Ministry of Health published this evening (Wednesday) initial findings found in an audit it conducted at the "Zabar" factory in Kiryat Gat, following the suspicion of the presence of salmonella in some of the hummus and tahini products produced there.
According to the findings, no substantial deviations were found in the audit.
In the audit, which began this morning and lasted until the evening hours, it emerged that the factory performs regular controls for salmonella, and uses raw materials only after proper sampling, and that over 200 tests for the presence of salmonella were performed in the last month.
In the inspection carried out today by the food service of the Ministry of Health in Tahina, which is the raw material in the production process where there is a high suspicion of the presence of salmonella, no laboratory proof of such presence was found.
Therefore, it is not possible to determine, as of this stage, what the source of the infection is.
Following the audit, the ministry directed the factory to examine additional sources of contamination, and to submit a further detailed and reasoned investigation to the Ministry of Health.

In response to the findings, Sabar Company stated: "Sabar Company puts the quality of its products and consumer safety at the top of its priorities. The company will act according to the detailed instructions of the Ministry of Health as we always do."
Yesterday, the company announced the suspected presence of salmonella in "Zabar" hummus and tahina, in products with an expiration date of December 26, 2022. According to the company, the source of the problem was the raw tahini used to manufacture the product.
As a precaution, the company said that it decided to collect the products from those production lines, in coordination with the food service of the Ministry of Health.
